Most of my catleya's don't have any name tags - they were collected by me over the years from friends who gave them to me when they finished flowering, some were purchased from the back benches of nurseries and garden centers in rather poor states at discounted prices not suitable for quick sales, other found me through neglected gardens. It's interesting that personally I find that cattleya's one of the easiest orchids to bring back to flowering - they just need a bit of shade in our hottest time, plenty of watering and a sunny bench in winter and they recover from any neglect very quickly.

ReplyDeleteI don't understand why people do not want plants that are not identified. In many case they'll try to find a picture of something similar on the internet and put that name on it. They are equally beautiful without a name.

Those are very beautiful cattleyas! You have all the best there is. In my very hot climate in our property i can't raise any orchids except vanda, because they are more heat tolerant. Cattleyas here are in protected nurseries.
ReplyDeleteTo Ron - of course, I agree with you, and I also think that many view some orchids as a throw - away plants, once finished blooming to be replaced quickly without realizing that some need time and the right conditions to bring it back to flower again. But for me it's an exiting journey to see old plant in bloom and to discover it's beauty!

ReplyDeleteYou have a beautiful collection. I think the name for the last orchids should be Pot. Chief Sweet Orange "Sweet Orange". I also have this specie too.
