Cymbidium Orchid - Blooming Early "Autumn Mist"

This beautiful cymbidium orchid called "Blooming Early "Autumn Mist" and it's just finished flowering in my garden.

I did not expect it to flower at this time of the year - we are now right in the middle of summer with hot dry days followed by cool rainy weather. Couple of weeks ago we had a lot of rains and this orchid started sending one flower spike, very unusual, since majority of cymbidiums in our climate cool flowering plants. Somehow, it must of got confused with the seasons, I can understand , since at times I am also confused with our weather and plants seems to find their own optimum times for flowering.

It's nice to see and to smell beautiful flowering orchid and this one does not disappoint. It's parentage Stanley Parkinson x Winter Wonder and the color is very pleasing light apricot with pink dotted centre with some pink dots on the petals. Another beautiful addition to any orchid collection.

  1. I got a new moth orchid for Christmas this year and am curious about watering? I always watered them every 7 days. This one says every 14 days. Would appreciate your thoughts...

  2. I am blessed, like you, to live where orchids can be outside all year round.
Yours are very beautiful. I have only 3 pots and don't know the types they are; two pots of my orchids look like this photo and one is a chocolate colored orchid with small flowers.
There is so much variety, and thanks for visiting my blog.

  7. Thank you everyone for your kind comments.

To Kate - moth orchids don't have any bulbs and can't store moisture, so they never should be dry and watering depends on the climate around them.

  10. Hi Klara, I apologize for never visiting...I noticed you stopped by;-) In fact, I noticed you weren't on my blogroll, I put you back on. I had taken my blog offline for a couple of months, and deleted every blog from Blotanical because I was going to quit there, since it takes up so much time! But I finally came back, and I'm sorry for not having you so I can see you. Your orchids are lovely...this autumn mist in particular. How nice it's blooming early! I think the whole world gets confused about their weather these days!
