Cymbidium Orchid - "Rembrandt Masterpiece"

This beautiful cymbidium orchid is one of the orchid's world most popular cymbidiums, loved by collectors, orchids growers and general gardeners everywhere and it's name - "Rembrandt Masterpiece". While the green color orchids generally not as appealing to majority of people, this one seems won it's place in many grower's heart's for it's bold, uncompromising blooms.

It's parents Culpalin x Valley Bush produced this special flower of green color with very prominent bright red colored lip, huge showy flowers that stay open for a long time, very vigorous plant that sends many flowering spikes during it's blooming season. This cross won many awards in competitions and shows around the world for it's perfect, unique and distinctive blooms.

My "Rembrandt Masterpiece" just started flowering and I am looking forward seeing many more of these exceptional, beautiful flowers in the next few weeks.

  2. I am very envious of your collections, which are mostly hybrids, stunning and all beautiful. This Cymbidium is definitely a winner. I have the Cymbidium which is from the wild and endemic here in the country. BTW, from which part of Australia are you. thanks for visiting my post.

  4. So gorgeous! I bought 2 cymbidiums at a flower show this year and one of them looked like this Rembrandt Masterpiece. I wonder if it is the same?

  5. I have one green cymbidium with but I don't know what variety it is. Could it be Rembrandt? What is the distinguishing characteristic of this variety other than the color of the petal?
    Thanks.

  6. Klara, I am curious how many varieties of orchids do you have in total? Have you ever counted? Your collection is very impressive!

  7. Thank you all for your comments and for allowing me to introduce to you Rembrandt Masterpiece.

Helen - this one have very round, very large blooms and stands out among other green cymbidiums as a giant because it also taller and more vigorous than any others. The intensity of colors in the blooms, like with most orchids, will depend on the weather conditions during it's growing cycle - cooler weather will bring stronger, deeper colors while warm will take it into more pastel shades. Cymbidiums originate from the cool mountain areas of India and China and have this "cool" gene in their genetic makeup.

Tatyana - I really don't know, I've been collecting and studying and growing orchids for many years now. I am fascinated equally by all native orchids as well as complex hybrids and try to grow them in our climate, which at times can be a challenge. All I know that it started many moons ago and the "orchid mania" continues to this day. In this blog I just want to show their beauty and to do them justice and to show that anyone can grow these magical plants.

  10. Your orchids are always so beautiful. I love orchids and have only three, but it is hard to get them to rebloom without having greenhouse conditions. My three Phalaenopsis are now on their third bloom cycle. I would love to have the climate to have them in the garden.Your gardens must be like a little piece of heaven.

  11. Thank goodness I found you. People keep giving me Orchids and I was of the belief that, as you say, they are difficult to grow. I will read and learn from you. I'm off to an Orchid show this weekend. Maybe I'll pick some up and let you know.

Thanks for the lovely blotanical welcome too.
